Shelby County GOP

This is a fictional story about a fox and a dysfunctional henhouse, or, let's say, a dysfunctional state government. In order to accomplish the dysfunctional objective, the fox needs three things: money, power and control.

First, the money. A constant funding source, preferably from union members not paying attention to what is done with the funds they so blindly hand over. If the members knew, most of them would be morally outraged. They would find their union's methods and actions reprehensible. So, constant access to large amounts of union funds would be ideal.

It's graduation time in Alabama. Thousands of high school seniors will march across stages or on football fields in the next few weeks to receive their graduation diplomas.

It will be a time a great joy for parents and grandparents alike.

Graduation is a time of dreams. It is a time of bright hopes for the future. It is a time of potential rather than problems.

Let me add some encouragement.

Who Are America's Heroes?

WASHINGTON, March 13, 2009—The challenge issued by a flight attendant during a recent commercial air flight seemed innocuous enough: Name just one of the five Medal of Honor recipients from the current engagements in Afghanistan or Iraq, and get a free drink coupon.

But the passengers’ response – more specifically, the inability of all but just one to respond – revealed how little the average American knows about its military heroes.

Forget the pork. Forget the waste. Forget the 8,570 earmarks in a bill supported by a president who poses as the scourge of earmarks. Forget the "2 trillion dollars in savings" that "we have already identified," $1.6 trillion of which President Obama's budget director later admits is the "savings" of not continuing the surge in Iraq until 2019 -- 11 years after George Bush ended it, and eight years after even Bush would have had us out of Iraq completely.

Alabama Democrats have been plagued with scandal and corruption, yet seem content with the very culture of corruption that they created by moving a bill in the legislature to committee that would seriously undermine the ability of the Ethics Commission to do its job. Alabama needs ethics reform, but not the kind that the Democrat majority is pushing. Below is an editorial from the Birmingham News discussing the Democrats’ bill and its many flaws.
