Social networking such as Facebook and Twitter are now woven into the fabric of our culture. If you are a Facebook user, you are invited to visit the Facebook page “Shelby County Republican Party (Alabama)”, and click “Like’. This will provide you the means, through Facebook, to receive communications and updates from SCGOP. Additionally, you can assist us in expanding our Facebook page. Once you “Like” our page, we urge to sit down at your computer –or perhaps do so for more than one session – and “Invite Friends” from among your own Facebook friends to “LIKE” the Shelby County Republican Party (Alabama) page. While anyone is welcome to “Like” our page, our objective is to engage as many Shelby County friends as possible in order that we can utilize that tool later in mobilizing volunteers for our outreach and elections activities. Doing so quickly multiplies our numbers.
Simply visit the Shelby County Republican Party (Alabama) page, select the “Invite Friends” option, then scroll through your list of friends, selecting those you wish to invite. While not all will respond, this investment of relatively little time – at no monetary expense – will assuredly yield an extremely high probability of response.
Executive Committee Membership
The Executive Committee of the Shelby County Republican Party is the body which governs the activities of the GOP in our county. Executive Committee terms are four (4) years in length, and the membership is selected during the primary process during the gubernatorial election cycle. Vacancies, either those existing whereby no members submitted for qualifying, or in the case of those whose membership has ceased for any reason, are filled by nomination and ratification by existing Executive Committee members. Presently, there exist thirty-four (34) vacancies on the Executive Committee. Executive Committee membership involves, at a minimum quarterly, meetings during which the business of the party is conducted, and also typically feature a special guest speaker of interest to our membership.
From among the members of the Executive Committee, officers are elected to serve two-year terms. Those officers include: Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer. Those officers, along with nine (9) Zone Directors (one elected from among members in each county commission district), and five Chairman-appointed members (Finance Director, Publicity Director, Training Director, Research Director, and Legal Counsel/Parliamentarian) constitute the Steering Committee. The Steering Committee, representing the full Executive Committee, conducts the routine and detailed business of the SCGOP.
Executive Committee membership includes a one-time qualifying fee of $50 (for each four-year term, or portion thereof). Additionally, Executive Committee members pay annual dues in the amount of $60, or if paid online, can be done at $5 per month.
Join the Volunteer Force
Obviously, not everyone wants to commit themselves to business meetings and other obligations required of the Executive Committee membership. Volunteers are essential, vital, and imperative to our continued success. From those volunteers we find future executive committee members, the manpower to mount the kind of political activites necessary during general election, organize by precinct and areas, and perform the numerous tasks routinely required of our party. An ever-expanding force of volunteers is critical to the vitality of our county party.
Interested volunteer prospects can visit the website www.shelbycountygop.org, then click on the VOLUNTEER tab. A volunteer information form is displayed and, upon completion, is directed to one of our officers for further action.
Sustaining Financial Supporter
Sustaining financial support, aside from our fundraiser events, is critical to enable us to expand our capacity to cover operational costs (presently our headquarters office, phone, internet, routine printing, etc.) while allowing 100% of each fundraiser dollar yielded to go straight into elections. Your participation as a sustaining financial supporter is available through what we call The Shelby County GOP Club (SCGOP Club). There are two (2) very affordable levels whereby supporters can contribute. Sustaining Membership level is $60 annually, or if paid online, only $5 per month, Standard Membership level is $120 annually, or if paid online, $10 per month.
