In memory and tribute to Homer Jackson

The state of Alabama and the Republican Party lost a true pioneer this weekend. Homer Jackson, longtime treasure for the Alabama Republican Party left this life on Sunday. A man of great intellect and unsurpassed integrity, Homer was truly one of the genuinely nicest people I have ever met. It wasn’t difficult to determine that his joyful demeanor radiated from his Christian faith. To refer to him as a consummate gentleman would be an understatement.

The successes that the Republican Party here in Shelby County has known the past 25 years could not have been possible without predecessors on whose shoulders we stand. Homer Jackson is certainly among those, with service to our great party dating back at least to 1940 when he was elected chairman of the Alabama Young Republicans. Those were days when identifying with the GOP wasn’t necessarily popular – or productive- in this state. Not just believing those endearing principles, but living them out, he persevered to contribute to and witness many successful results for our party and its candidates.

Homer served his country, his state, his beloved political party, and most importantly, his Lord with distinction and humility. A fixture of the Alabama Republican Party for decades, he will be missed by many. Hopefully, those of us privileged to know this awesome man will allow his admirable traits to be demonstrated similarly in us.
